So, how can I help?

As the inspirational stories in this edition of Chatter show, so many people are helping us to raise funds, in so many different ways, and having a great time while they do it! A huge thank you to everyone – it really does all make a difference. If you have a fundraising idea, why not give it a go? We can provide you with MND materials – to promote it, collect money and raise awareness of why the MND Association is such a good cause. Why not get in touch and chat through your idea? Contact Liz at liz.burnley@gmail.com or on 07786 171246.

There are many exciting ways you can raise much-needed funds for the MND Association – either as an individual or through your business. However you fundraise, you can be guaranteed your cash will make a real difference to the lives of people affected by MND.

We also need volunteers to help with events we organise as a Branch. As well as having fun as part of a great team, you would be making a real difference to people living with MND. Why not talk to one of the Branch contacts listed at the end of this newsletter about what you would like to do? You would be very welcome – however much or little time you have to spare.

URGENT: Help us make our fundraising go further

In the last edition, we asked you if you would like to receive Chatter by email in future. Thank you to those who replied – but there were so few of you!! Posting the newsletter means we have less money available to support people living with MND. So, if you haven’t already, PLEASE let us have your email address so we can send you Chatter quicker and cheaper in future! Just contact Liz on liz.burnley@gmail.com. Do it now, before you forget…thank you!!!

The stamps used in this mailing were kindly bequeathed to us by Irene Webster, a former member. Although the lovely collection of stamps was valued at face value, they actually amounted to a total of £230, which helps us hugely and is very much appreciated.

Nice weather for ducks…

Although a bit damper than usual, this year’s Duck Derby at Blubberhouses Cricket Club saw our volunteers raise a wonderful £850 for our funds. As well as the duck race, stalls and games helped to raise money but also to raise awareness about MND and why we are working so hard to defeat it. Thanks to all who helped with this event.

Getting in shape to raise money for MND

Peter Wallis (centre) got in shape by losing over 24lbs in weight & raising money with his friends to support the Branch in the process. The second part of the challenge was running over 2 bridges in York… easy you might think, but Peter did it wearing this “lovely” lime green mankini! Well done!

If losing a few pounds is a target for you, help is at hand!! Look out for our special fundraising challenge for new year 2012… watch out for information in the next edition of Chatter!!

Thank you to Weaverthorpe village

Weaverthorpe village, near Malton, held an Open Gardens event, raising over £750 for MND. Ten gardens were opened, from a tiny courtyard to an acre of meadow, vegetables and themed beds. Thank you for making us your cause for a great day!

All in the family

It was a family affair when the Pratt family made this year’s Great North Run really count for the MND Association. Branch secretary Anne said “My husband, Richard, running for the first time came in at 2 hours 8 minutes; Alan, my eldest, at 1 hour 52 minutes and Graeme, my youngest, at 1 hour 55mins, so they were all pleased.”

Well done to all the family, who raised £1,300 between them – fantastic!!

Steve’s drum-a-thon to beat MND…

When Steve Carter thought about how to celebrate a recent special birthday, he did it in style… with 9 hours of drumming, with 9 different bands at Korks in Otley! He raised over £1,500 in the process, in memory of his mother who had MND. Hard work, but Steve and all his guests had a great time. Steve said “ My thanks to all who helped stage the event in whatever capacity”. Our thanks also go to Steve and all the bands for the great night’s drumming!

Walk to d’feet 2011

…saw more than 200 walkers (& a few runners too!) enjoy the sunshine of beautiful Swinsty & Fewston reservoirs – oh, and raise a cool £6,500 at the same time! Thank you to Yorkshire Water for the support and thank you to all who came and enjoyed the day and helped us make such a difference!

Our fantastic fundraisers!!

Thank you so much to everyone who has worked so hard since our last update to raise funds for the MNDA. What you have achieved is extraordinary!!

Thank you to:

  • Hawes Band & East Witton Choir, who raised over £1,600 at their charity concert
  • Ilkley Keep Fit Ladies
  • Filey Coffee Ladies
  • Cooking Fantastic demonstration

Harrogate Fine Art & Antiques Fair

As Charity of the Year for the Fair, we used the royal wedding weekend to good effect, raising over £2,400 through raffling a stunning original painting kindly donated by local artist Tony Brummel Smith. We are grateful to Baroness Masham for sponsoring our involvement. Our theme was also to raise awareness, using striking portraits by Patrick, the Incurable Optimist, who has just completed heading this awareness raising campaign for the MNDA.
