Concerns about holiday insurance
THINKING about booking your holidays for next year?
It’s important to make sure you have adequate holiday insurance.
‘The Branch gets many requests for help with insurance,’ said Chairman Peter Thompson. ‘But it is difficult to give individual advice.’
The Association has now withdrawn an information leaflet because of various problems, but they are able to suggest three companies which have been recommended by people living with MND.
These are Freedom Insurance of Cambridge: 0870-77433760, Tesco Travel: 0845-3009900, and Sainsbury’s: 0870-9013674.
Further information can be given if you telephone National Office on 01604-250505.
People living with MND are reminded that, in many countries, the cost of medical treatment in the event of illness or accident has to be met in full and can be high. Even in most of the countries with which Britain has a reciprocal arrangement for health care, at least part of the cost of treatment may have to be repaid.
Holiday insurance is generally associated with overseas travel but is also available for, and should be considered for, a holiday in Britain.
Before taking out a policy, check that it does not exclude any ‘pre-existing’ condition that is relevant to you. Also ensure that there is adequate cover for equipment that you are taking with you because of your disability.
And when your policy comes, check it carefully before you go.
